Description
The muscular Spokane River hurdles an Avista Energy Company dam that provides hydro power to the Inland Empire, and rushes over ancient, unyielding masses of basalt, forming rough rapids known as the Lower Falls. The River gallops through a canyon bridged by the concrete arches of the Monroe Street Bridge. Spokane tribes and other indigenous groups once fished for salmon at these rocky falls before the dams and bridges came. Spokane basks under a warm late July sun under an azure sky. July, 2019.
