Description
SRRY No 6 sits in the rain beside SR 20 in Newhalem, remembering the days when it hauled workers and lumber and concrete from the Great Northern yard at Rockport, 23 miles west. Newhalem is a company town, built by Seattle City Light, to provide homes for the workers building three hydroelectric dams, Gorge, Diablo, and Ross, that send power to Seattle. The Skagit River Railway (SRRY) operated from 1919 to 1954. September, 2023.
