Description
Edgewater Park is on the west bank of the Skagit River, just across the river from downtown Mt Vernon. The park is home to this sculpture of a spawning salmon, swimming hundreds, perhaps thousands, of miles back upriver after spending several years in the ocean. The sculpture is life size, a little over three feet in length. Some species of salmon are as much as six feet long when they return to the creek or stream of their birth, to lay and fertilize eggs, and then to die.
