Description
The Gorge Power House in Newhalem, Washington, is operated by Seattle City Light. Large turbines produce hydroelectric power for the City of Seattle. A 24.5 foot diameter tunnel, called a penstock, compresses the water flow from Gorge Lake, impounded by the Gorge Dam, to increase the pressure of water to the turbines. The bridge on the left over the green Skagit River provides staff access to the Power House.
