Artist's Description
A bridge from the parking lot to the visitor center crosses a ditch of green pea soup. The soup is at the Billy Frank Jr Nisqually Wildlife Refuge. It's actually algae, but would you know that just by looking? September, 2016. Billy Frank Jr was a member of the Nisqually tribe, a leader in the Washington environmental movement, an advocate for Native American salmon fishing treaty rights, and a longtime chairman of the Northwest Indian Fisheries Commission. The National Refuge was named for him in 2015. September, 2016.
