Description
The bottle tree has a long history (ninth century in Central Africa) of protecting the household from evil spirits. Brought to the United States by slaves, and carried north to Appalachia, bottle trees have continued to be used for protection, decoration, and to honor the dead. Cobalt blue is the most effective color for these purposes. This tree is east of Mt. Vernon, Washington. May, 2016.

How many bottle trees are there? I have never seen a brass tree. Now I have.
