Description
Seattle City Light constructed three huge dams on the upper Skagit River for hydroelectric power in the early 20th century. The small company town of Newhalem was built to accommodate the construction of those dams. To transport workers and materials to Newhalem, City Light built the Skagit River Railway that ran 23 miles west to the Great Northern Railway depot at Rockport. Old Number 6 was the steam locomotive, parked now in Newhalem, that pulled the Skagit River Railway train. October, 2020.
