Description
Farewell Bend. Pioneer families in wagon trains followed the Oregon Trail from the Missouri River westward. One branch of the Oregon Trail paralleled the Snake River across Idaho, until the Snake turned northeast. The pioneers named that elbow in the Snake River Farewell Bend, the last good grass and easy water before the Trail turned towards the Blue Mountains of Oregon. Farewell Bend State Park, on the border between Oregon and Idaho, now marks that parting of ways. Due to the curves in the Snake River, this view looks northeast from the Oregon bank of the Snake.
