Artist's Description
March 20, 2019 was the vernal equinox, the first day of spring. In 2019, it was also the night of a supermoon, within a few hours of the moon's perigee or closest point to the earth. A supermoon occurs when the moon is on the opposite side of the earth from the sun. In Everson's Riverside Park, the supermoon's brilliant light is diffused by thin clouds. Street lights, park security lights, a car's headlights, and lights from a distant bedroom window compete with a glorious haloed moon. The bright star Regulus, at the 11 o'clock position from the moon, can be seen when the image is expanded.
