Salmon are significant in the Washington village of Lyle. Stepping up the sun and shadows of the rolling hills on the north shore of the Columbia River, the town of 500 has a high school and middle school. Elementary students are sent upriver to the smaller community of Murdock. Rainbow salmon are stretched on a fence that edges the high school parking lot.
