Artist's Description
Tall, broad pillars support the Peace Arch, surmounted by the flags of Canada and the United States. The Peach Arch, commemorates the 1814 signing of the Treaty of Ghent that ended the War of 1812. The monument also is a reminder of the long era of peace between Canada and the US. Straddling the border in Blaine, Washington, and Surrey, BC, the Arch is centered in Peace Arch Park, where visitors can cross the border freely, as long as they stay in the Park.
