The North Cascades Highway, State Route 20, opened on May 11, 2018. Highway snow removal crews had started on March 26, and the work took seven weeks to complete. This shot was on May 20 at mile marker 161 a few miles east of Washington Pass. The rocky crags in the center are called the Needles. The highway here was still closed less than two weeks earlier after a snowy winter. May, 2018.
