Description
State Route 9 crosses the green Skagit River on the two-lane bridge nearest the camera. The highway bridge was built in 1959. The Northern Pacific Railroad bridge framed by the highway piers, was built in 1913. The NP was the successor to the original railroad through this valley, the Seattle, Lake Shore and Eastern. The rusty rail bridge, reflected in the Skagit River, long abandoned, ends on the banks of the river. Driftwood piles up against the piers of the rail bridge. August, 2020.
