A dock at a Pateros motel floats in the early morning upon a serene Columbia River, calm before playful, noisy boats crisscross the river. Red benches make clear this is a "No Wake Zone." Pateros is a small town on the western shore of the Columbia, where the Methow River runs out of the North Cascade hills. The sun peeked above the watery horizon of the Columbia River at 5:30, touching the dock with day. July, 2019.
