Tumwater Canyon is narrow and steep west of Leavenworth, only wide enough for the Wenatchee River and a two-lane highway. US 2 is just to the right of the image. Great Northern Railway tracks once traveled where the US 2 now runs. Great Northern pulled up its tracks and rerouted around Tumwater Canyon because the narrow canyon walls often caused the tracks to be blocked by landslides or snow. August, 2021.
