Artist's Description

Kamezo and Miye Nakashima bought their farm in Snohomish County north of Arlington, Washington state, in July, 1937. Kamezo Nakashima was one of the earliest Japanese farmers in the area. Despite their success at farming, in 1942 the Nakashimas were forced to sell their farm and they and their family were interned in camps. After WW II ended, the Nakashimas were released from the camps and they moved to Seattle to manage a hotel. The barn now marks the Centennial Trailhead on State Route 9. September, 2021.
