Description
The North Cascades Highway, State Route 20, climbs high among the craggy peaks of the North Cascades from Mazama and Winthrop to the east. The road climbs higher, westward bound, traveling through Washington Pass, before it descends to Ross Lake and Diablo Lake. A cloudy day in early summer reveals patches of snow on the mountains. The North Cascades Highway is closed for six months of the year. Just beyond the truck and RV, at mile marker 163, a tall orange pylon marks the edge of the road for snow plows when the road opens in early June, 2018.
