In the small playground community of Mazama, in the eastern foothills of the North Cascades, trails are for hiking or running, for dog walking and cycling in the summer. In the winter, paths such as this are used for cross-country skiing. A bulletin board built to withstand the weather is supported by concrete blocks and has a steel roof to ward off the heavy winter snow. In early November, a horse barn under a blue and white sky peeks through a window in the bulletin board. A welcoming bench invites contemplation of meadow and forest. November, 2018.
