Description
A crucifix, a wooden cross leaning in the corner in shadow, a wreath of barbed wire (representing a crown of thorns) and rose blossoms (in the right corner), an elk antler, and other symbols of faith and reverence adorn the ancient adobe wall of this old church. Spanish settlers built the community of Santa Rosa de Lima in the 1730s, near the present town of Abiquiu, New Mexico. This adobe church, melting slowly into the sandy soil that formed the adobe bricks, served the community of Santa Rosa de Lima. The adobe walls are all that remains. September, 2018.
