A steel breakwater protects the shore near Astoria, Oregon, from the tidal rise and fall of the Columbia River. A water level pier offers a sanctuary for dozens of sea lions. Between the sea lions and the breakwater, fishing boats from Seattle, WA, Eureka, CA, and Dublin, Ireland (!) find safe haven.
