Description
Skagit City was a settlement on Fir Island, between the North and South Forks of the Skagit River. Settlers could not go much farther up the Skagit Valley because the Skagit River was blocked by two large log jams near where Mt Vernon is today. This school building southwest of Mt Vernon was erected in 1889 to serve the growing community of Skagit City. After the jams were cleared, the community disappeared. The school in now a museum in the midst of cornfields. September, 2022.
