Artist's Description

The Columbia River bends south briefly at the Rowena Dell, Oregon, east of McClure Lake, then continues east. The Rowena Dell is atop the cliffs that are right of center. Upriver, traveling generally to the east, is towards the left in this image, and Portland is downriver, to the right. Sharp shadows are cast by the sheer cliffs in mid-afternoon in February. The Rowena Dell is east of the Columbia River Gorge nearing the sagebrush steppes of central Oregon and Washington.
