Mt Vernon, Washington, has set aside one block of Pine Street as a pedestrian mall. The sidewalks, curbs, and asphalt have been removed and replaced by brick paving. No car traffic. The Skagit County Courthouse on South 2nd Street is at the east end of the mall and South 1st Street is at the west end. On a warm August afternoon like this, shade from the buildings and several large trees make the pedestrian mall a pleasant place to hang out.
