Description
The Peace Arch rises on the Canada-US border in the middle of Peace Arch Park. The American flag and the Canada flag are raised to the same height on flag poles that stand atop the arch. On the left of the arch, Canada Highway 99 carries southbound traffic to the US border crossing in Blaine, Washington, and I-5. On the right, behind the taller maple tree, US highway I-5 connects with Canada Highway 99, leading to the Canada border crossing. Travelers can walk back and forth across the border without going through an official border crossing if they stay within the international park. Spreading maple trees stand guard on each side of the Arch, bright green in May, 2019.
