Description
From the late 1890s through World War II, three coast artillery installations guarded Admiralty Inlet, the gateway to Puget Sound. Their purpose was to protect the shipyard at Bremerton and the ports of Seattle and Tacoma from potential naval assaults. The three forts were located so that they could lay down a triangle of artillery fire. The sites were Fort Worden, just north of Port Townsend, Fort Flagler, the southern tip of the triangle, and Fort Casey, on Whidbey Island, the northeast tip. The batteries were never fired at an enemy ship. November, 2021.
