Artist's Description
Tierra O Muerte. In 1967, La Alizanza, a Hispanic land rights organization led by Reies Lopez Tijerina, captured the Rio Arriba County Courthouse in Tierra Amarilla, New Mexico, a few miles from this sign near US 84, and held it briefly. Tierra O Muerte (Land Or Death) was the rallying cry of La Alianza. September rain clouds shade sagebrush and juniper trees on a hillside above Tierra Amarilla. September, 2018.
