Description
The Sicamous is a four-decked, steam-powered, sternwheeler beached on the Okanagan Lake shore at Penticton. Built in 1914 for the CPR, the Sicamous carried passengers and freight, particularly fruit, up and down Okanagan Lake from Penticton past Kelowna to Vernon. In addition to freight, she was built for luxury day trips for passengers, with separate saloons and observation decks for men and women, elegantly enhanced by Australian mahogany and Burmese teak fittings. A highway on the west side of Okanagan Lake and the Kettle Valley Railway on the east, caused the CPR to lose money on the Sicamous. Her last voyage was in 1937. She now serves as a museum and event center. October, 2019.
