Description
The pea soup, algae-laden ditch in front of the visitor center, on the left, is itself submerged by grass and other plants at the Billy Frank Jr Nisqually Wildlife Refuge. September, 2016. Billy Frank Jr was a member of the Nisqually tribe, a leader in the Washington environmental movement, an advocate for Native American salmon fishing treaty rights, and a longtime chairman of the Northwest Indian Fisheries Commission. The National Refuge was named for him in 2015.
