Description
Newhalem was built by Seattle City Light to provide housing for workers who maintain the Gorge Powerhouse and the dams that generate electricity upriver. The Skagit General Store was constructed as a company commissary in 1922. It now serves the families who live and work in Newhalem and travelers who pass by on SR 20 on their way over the North Cascades. The General Store is know for its store-made fudge. April, 2021.
