Description
Lewiston Hill is at an altitude of 2,756 feet. The city of Lewiston, Idaho, is to the left of the Snake River in this image, and beyond the Clearwater River that flows from the left to its confluence with the Snake, below the hill. Clarkston, WA, is on the right of the Snake. The ten-mile long, switchback highway was built in 1917 to enable gas powered automobiles to make it down the hill. Lewiston marks the southeast edge of the Palouse farming region.
