The Dalles Dam, 192 miles from the mouth of the Columbia River, was finished in 1957, creating 24 mile long Celilo Lake. The Dam provides clean hydroelectric power as far away as Los Angeles. The Lake covered Celilo Falls, an ancient Native American cultural and fishing site used by tribes from all over the northwest, and the oldest continuously inhabited site in North America. May, 2017.
