Description
Santa Cruz is a community on the eastern edge of Espanola, New Mexico. Santa Cruz was a city of the Tewa Indians at the time the Spanish Conquistadores arrived in 1540. Espanola, to the west, began as a stop for the railroad, and eventually surrounded Santa Cruz. El Llano Road begins here in Santa Cruz, and travels beyond the stop sign around Espanola. Most houses in Santa Cruz are old adobe structures or frame stucco, simulated adobe, like this sun-draped home. Historic Santa Cruz church is just to the left of the house. September, 2018.
