Description
The High Road to Taos travels north out of Santa Fe, down into the Rio Grande Valley, and then climbs the foothills and western slopes of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. The High Road, New Mexico 76 as it bypasses Espanola, ascends through the small village of Truchas (trout in Spanish), a historic settlement of thick-walled, adobe houses that straddles a narrow ridge at 8000 foot elevation. Remnants of snow on the day after Thanksgiving decorate the roadside under a dark sky. More snow will come soon.
