Description
A dirt road drops down from State Route 20 about a half mile from the Gorge Dam, then crosses an almost dry river bed on a steel arch bridge to a a service road south of the dam. The Skagit River, impounded by the dam to form Gorge Lake, is diverted into a penstock, a large pipe, at Gorge Dam and flows down to the Gorge Powerhouse at Newhalem, leaving the river bed mostly dry.
