Description
Gorge Dam spillway was dry in May two years ago, though the steep slopes of the gorge were draped in spring green. The spillway and the rocky bed of the Skagit River at the foot of the spillway are usually dry because water from the Gorge Lake reservoir behind the dam travels three miles to the Gorge Powerhouse at Newhalem through a penstock, a large pipe used in hydroelectric systems.
