The platoon confronted the Sioux, then fired a howitzer at them. The native Americans fell to the ground as the soldiers pulled the lanyard, then jumped up and killed the troop. The incident became known as Grattan's Massacre. Fort Flagler was part of the Triangle of Fire Coast Artillery emplacements that protected the entrance to Puget Sound. April, 2021.
