Description
Basalt Cliffs Columbia River and West Bar. Columbia River makes a sweeping curve at the community of Crescent Bar, left of center. On a spring day, the Columbia is smooth, wide, and deep blue. Basalt cliffs on the eastern shore and West Bar on the western side, right of center, are evidence of periodic, catastrophic, Ice Age flooding by glacial Lake Columbia when ice dams crumbled. The West Bar is a major sediment bar left behind by the rushing flood waters. April, 2025.
