Description
Barnacles decorate the feet of rusty fender piles on the ferry wharf of the Bellingham Alaska Marine Highway System. The tidal ebb and rise of the blue water of Bellingham Bay is marked on the steel I-beams that are tied together by massive, weathered, wooden beams. A heavy steel cable secures the fender piles to a bollard on the dock. A fender pile protects the wharf from the impact of berthing ferries. August, 2020.
