Description
The basalt bluffs on the Oregon side above the mighty Columbia River are carved by erosion and ancient earth forces into plateaus and rocky ravines between The Dalles and Hood River. A few miles west of the Rowena Crest Viewpoint, a traveler will see this old, weathered barn just off US 30, the Historic Columbia River Highway. Bright yellow balsamroot wildflowers adorn the green field on this side of the rocky cleft in early May. Washington mountains, blue with distance, are visible on the horizon.
