Helper, Utah, is named after the helper engines that were added to coal trains in Carbon County to make the steep climb to Soldier Summit. Known as the Hub of Carbon County, the small town is about 60 miles southeast of Spanish Fork and 7 miles north of Price. Helper had a 2017 population of 2091. Tenth Street travels one long block from US Highway 191/6. Three days after Thanksgiving, 2019, the craggy, sandstone mesas that embrace Helper were dusted by snow under a sky that faded from a deep azure blue to hazy pastel blue.
Welcome to my Vagabond Photography site. Much of my work is shot in Washington state, though I also wander other places in the western US and in southern British Columbia. I hope you enjoy the images of the places, things, and people that are displayed here. Vagabond Photography means seeking interesting, fun, remarkable sights, being a will-o'-the-wisp in search of the unusual, the beautiful, the engaging, and the truly awe inspiring. Perhaps you'd like to join me on my journeys. Welcome to my corner of the world! Welcome to Vagabond Photography, vagabonding (wandering) across the Pacific Northwest.
