Three railroads intersected in a triangle in Sedro-Woolley -the Fairhaven and Southern, F&S, the Seattle, Lake Shore and Eastern, SLS&E, and the Seattle and Northern, S&N. The rail lines were built at a time when vast fortunes were made and spent by a handful of wealthy industrialists on the backs of large groups of people working for poverty wages. Each line had a different purpose, to connect with railroads from the east, to transport coal from mines northeast of Sedro-Woolley, and to connect Seattle's growing markets to Canada. This gallery presents images of those historic, 19th century efforts to expand the country.
