Sedro-Woolley, home of the LoggeRodeo, is a small town at the intersection of State Route 20 and State Route 9, on the north bank of the Skagit River. A town draped with history, the BNSF railway travels through town, traveling from the Canadian border south to Seattle and beyond. Before there was BNSF or an Amtrak, three railways met in Sedro-Woolley as the Woolley Triangle. Northeast of town, a hospital for the criminally insane was built in the early 20th century, Northern State Hospital, which eventually became a mental hospital, and now provides a campus for the Job Corps. Lumber, then coal, supported the town in the early days. Now, agriculture is the economic mainstay, and the ag industry has drawn many migrant workers who have stayed and established businesses and professions that contribute to the community. It's a charming town, well worth a visit.
