Description
Truchas is small community scattered on a ridge along state Highway 76 in the Sangre de Cristo mountains of northern New Mexico. The residents of this peaceful village are firewood cutters and artists and folks who work down in the Rio Grande Valley at Walmart. The front yard of this house is home to an old adobe shed, the dark building on the right. The fence enclosing the yard is eclectic. On the left, behind the colorful fire hydrant, is a bed spring. In the center is a farm gate. The fence between the power pole and the adobe shed is called a coyote fence, a series of vertical sticks, held closely together by wire to keep coyotes out. A rusted hulk, possibly a former farm combine, sits in the middle of the yard. Snow is melting on the day after Thanksgiving, 2019.
