Description

An actor wearing a crown of thorns portrays the crucifixion of Jesus in front of student actors portraying Roman soldiers as the final act of the Passion Play presented on the Friday before Easter at the Santuario de Chimayo. The crown is smooth and padded on the inside, the "blood" is paint, and "Jesus" is holding the cross. This is a remarkable expression of the faith of the participants and of many of the visitors and pilgrims present.
