Description
Spokane Indian bands and other tribes gathered at the Lower Falls of the Spokane River to fish each year. Tribes elected chiefs to keep the peace. The Salmon Chief was responsible for organizing the fishing and fairly distributing the catch. This sculpture was created by Virgil “Smoker” Marchand, a member of the Colville Confederated Tribes, and installed in Huntington Park in 2014. The Post Street Bridge peeks above the Lower Falls on the left. Blue skies at the end of July.
