Road to San Ysidro. San Ysidro is a tiny, blink-and-you'll-miss-it, village 45 miles northwest of Albuquerque, New Mexico. Ten miles or so before the traveler arrives at San Ysidro, this vista expands before grateful eyes. New Mexico, like certain other places in the west, is a land of expansive, awe-inspiring distances, red rock mesas, juniper, pinon, and more sky than one knew was possible. March, 2016.
