Description
Memorial to Comcomly. Chief Comcomly was a leader of the Chinook Confederacy, which extended from the Cascades to the Pacific along the Columbia River. Chief Comcomly died during a fever epidemic in 1830. He was buried in a canoe, as was customary, in an Astoria cemetery. This concrete canoe memorial overlooks Youngs Bay west of Astoria from the grounds of the Astoria Column. October, 2017.
