Description
Sculptor Virgil "Smoker" Marchand, a member of the Colville Confederated Tribes, created life-sized iron sculptures of the sacred salmon harvest to honor the indigenous Methow people who lived in the Methow Valley for thousands of years. This sculpture depicts a woman hanging salmon to dry for winter. This educational memorial sits on the bank of the broad Columbia River in Pateros Park. Two gnarled aspens grow from the river gravel at the woman's feet.
