Description
The Skagit River rushes down from Canada snaking through the high peaks of the North Cascades on its way to Puget Sound. Three hydroelectric dams owned by Seattle City light slow its passage and provide clean electric power to western Washington. The middle dam is Diablo Dam between sheer granite cliffs, which impounds turquoise Diablo Lake. Diablo Dam can produce 129 MW of electricity. At the time it began producing power in 1936, it was the tallest dam in the world at 389 feet. Massive spillways are dry in summer. July, 2019.
