Description
Okanagan Lake, lapping on the beaches of Penticton and Kelowna, BC, is the source of the Okanogan River. One hundred fifteen miles south, the Okanogan merges with the mighty Columbia River at Brewster, Washington. The Okanogan River Valley, covered with rabbit brush and sagebrush between dusty hills, provided a natural north-south passage for Native Americans, fur trappers, and, in the 1860s, gold miners in the Cariboo region of BC. During that gold rush, cattle were driven north along the Cariboo Trail to feed the gold miners until 1868. November, 2018.
